Masaya Volcano Experience
About This Tour
Masaya Volcano is one of only a handful of places on Earth where you can peer directly into the throat of an active volcano. This shield volcano has been erupting intermittently since the Spanish first arrived in the 1500s — they called it "La Boca del Infierno" (the Mouth of Hell). By day, smoke billows dramatically from the Santiago crater. By night, the lava lake casts an otherworldly orange glow against the darkness. Your guide shares the geology, indigenous legends, and safety protocols as you stand meters from the crater rim. This is the single most unforgettable experience in Nicaragua.
