Chocoyero Nature Reserve & Waterfalls
About This Tour
Just 30 minutes from Managua lies one of Nicaragua's most underrated natural wonders. The Chocoyero-El Brujo Nature Reserve protects a pristine patch of tropical forest where two waterfalls cascade into emerald pools. The reserve gets its name from the chocoyos (green parakeets) that nest in the cliff face behind the falls — watching hundreds of them swirl out at dusk is one of Nicaragua's great wildlife spectacles. The 4 km hike is guided by local rangers who know every bird call and every hidden trail. Add optional birdwatching or visit the surrounding agricultural farms to see how coffee, cacao, and tropical fruits are grown.
